FIGHTING FOR THE 2ND AMENDMENT
Glenn Hegar understands that our right to bear arms is under increasing attack in this country. Glenn believes that the Founding Fathers didn’t write the 2nd Amendment to fill space on their parchment, but to prevent the return of tyrannical government. That is why he has and will always fight to defend and expand the rights of gun owners across the great state of Texas.
PROVEN RECORD
During Glenn’s run for State Comptroller in 2014, he was honored to be one of only two statewide candidates in Texas to receive an “A+” rating from the National Rifle Association for “not only an excellent voting record on all critical NRA issues, but also making a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment.”
From the first day Glenn stepped into Texas Legislature, he fought tirelessly on behalf of 2nd Amendment rights. In 2005, Glenn authored House Bill 1066, which allows anyone from another state to apply for a non-resident Texas concealed handgun license (CHL) and amends the state’s reciprocity law to expand the number of states eligible for an agreement with Texas. Glenn’s efforts to expand CHL agreements were hailed by Pro-2nd Amendment groups as a strong and necessary self-defense measure.
A few years later, Glenn was proud to serve as Chairman of the Texas Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus, which fought to strengthen the rights of hunters and sportsman in Texas. While serving as Chairman of the Sportsman’s Caucus, Glenn was awarded the Texas State Rifle Association’s 2009 Doc Brown Legislator of the Year Award for the work he did to protect hunters and sportsmen across the state.
After Glenn’s Chairmanship of the Sportsman’s Caucus concluded, he continued to fight day in, day out to protect gun owners across Texas. In 2011, Glenn sponsored and helped pass landmark legislation that protected Texans’ right to transport and store firearms in locked, private motor vehicles while parked at work. In 2013, he continued the fight to extend those same freedoms to students with Concealed Handgun Licenses on the campuses of public and private institutions of higher education.
In recognition of his legislative efforts, Glenn was blessed with the privilege of accepting the coveted 2013 “Defender of Freedom Award” from the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action.
